AvaTax Calc is a cloud-based sales and use tax service that integrates seamlessly with more than one hundred ERP, financial, point of sale, and ecommerce applications. Its Software Development Kit (SDK) allows for fast integration with customized platforms and those not currently served.
Its status as a cloud-based system allows AvaTax to deliver real-time sales tax calculations based on up-to-date sales and use tax rates and rules, including sourcing rules and jurisdiction assignment. Recently Avalara deployed a new, proprietary geospatial technology to provide a heightened level of accuracy in calculating sales tax.
The introduction of this technology includes delivering jurisdiction assignment based solely upon the use of latitude and longitude coordinates, allowing the AvaTax Calc service to generate the appropriate sales tax calculation when a postal address is not available or applicable. This enhancement is vitally important for sales tax calculation support for mobile/handheld technologies (mobile commerce on tablets, smartphones and other remote services).
